CONTAGIUM.
Contagium is an outdoor mobile game developed by Remnera (Mikael Olofsson). This page describes what data the app uses, why, and how long it is kept.
Playing without an account
You do not have to register. The app creates an anonymous player ID on your phone that is used to recognise you in the game. The player name and figure you choose are shown to other players.
Account (optional)
If you want to keep your statistics and sign in on another phone, you can create an account with email (we send a one-time code), Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google. We then store your email address and an ID from Apple or Google. Apple and Google also give us your first name, which is used as your player name if you have not chosen one. We never receive your password.
Game results and statistics
After each match we store placing, points, time as a human and number of infections. This is used for the end screen, the leaderboard and your own statistics.
Location (GPS)
- During a match the app sends your position to the server. It is used only for the game rules: the play area, zones, distance to other players and infection. Other players never see your exact position, only direction and approximate distance as the rules allow.
- When you host a lobby the lobby's position is stored so that nearby players can find it.
- In the menu your position is used to show lobbies and matches within about 2 km. That position is not stored.
- On the board we store the place and time the host chooses for a planned match.
The app only uses your location while it is open and does not track you in the background.
Bluetooth
In lobbies and matches the phone broadcasts a short random code over Bluetooth so that nearby phones can find lobbies and sense players at close range. The code contains no personal data and changes every day. The server links the code to your player ID so the game knows who is near. When a player infects or locks someone, the codes the phone heard and their signal strength are sent to the server to decide the hit.
Camera
The camera is only used when you open it yourself to join a lobby with a QR code or the sphere. The image is read on the phone and is never stored or sent anywhere.
Notifications
If you allow notifications we store your phone's notification address so we can tell you about, for example, planned matches on the board. Notifications are delivered by Apple (iPhone) or Google Firebase (Android). You can turn them off in your phone's settings.
Diagnostics
The app sends technical events to the server, such as app version, whether Bluetooth and GPS work, and whether joining a lobby succeeded. They contain no location and are deleted automatically after 14 days.
Tip jar
If you leave a tip, payment is handled entirely by Apple or Google. We only receive a receipt showing the purchase was made, so you can be shown as a supporter. We never see your card details.
Where data is stored
Game data is stored with Supabase in a data centre in Stockholm, Sweden. App updates are delivered by Expo. Maps are shown with Apple Maps (iPhone) or Google Maps (Android). Emails with sign-in codes are sent through One.com. We use no advertising and no tracking tools, and we do not sell or share your data with anyone else.
How long
- Anonymous players who have not used the app for 30 days are deleted automatically, including results and statistics.
- Accounts are kept until you delete them.
- Abandoned lobbies are deleted after a few hours.
- Diagnostic data is deleted after 14 days.
Delete your account
In the app: Account → Delete my account. Your account, profile, statistics and notification address are deleted immediately. Results from matches that other players took part in remain, but without your name. You can also email us and we will delete your data.
Test versions
If you test through TestFlight or Google Play, Apple or Google collect crash reports and any feedback you send, under their own terms.
